Eileen Manees' Art & Bio
Eileen grew up in New Jersey with her family, lots of extended family, good friends and the ocean nearby. She picked up a pencil at an early age and drew and drew all the way through high school. (She has a mother, grandmother and aunt who drew and drew, too.)
Somehow she switched from the artistic track to 'I've got to make a living track,' She raised a family and spent the majority of her career working in a drug abuse clinic in California. The creative impulse was imprisoned in the work routine, but it managed to survive and poked its head out in knitting, sewing, crocheting and embroidery projects.
Ah...finally retirement time came. She moved to Hot Springs six years ago and began taking classes -- pastel with Deborah Phillips, painting and design with Ovita Goolsby and Thad Flenniken. She happily experiments in mixed media, doing whatever it takes to get the effect she wants. Her pieces range from realistic to whimsical, tinged with nostalgia.
