Linda Gaeta's Art & Bio
Ethnic Inspirations by Linda Gaeta
A celebration of the cultures of the world
I started collecting masks as a result of an art study trip to Bali over thirty years ago. The beautiful country and its people have had an immense influence on my perceptions and outlooks in all parts of my life. To me, masks show the many sides of the people they represent. Whether it is happiness, sadness, good or evil, or just everyday life and spirituality, they give an interpretation of life within that culture. I feel the differences between cultures enrich our lives and add a depth and understanding that is very important to me. I also feel we each have masks that we use as human beings use to present different aspects of ourselves to others.
I am inspired to create my sculptures from the masks I have collected and by my love of color. Each piece is unique in appearance and comes from my interpretation of the mask and its meaning both to myself and to the people which it represents, and is never repeated. The creation begins by selecting a mask and then selecting a color palette based on the mask and my inspiration. The character of the doll develops as I work through its creation.
Linda has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Ceramics and an Interior Design certificate. Her works are in private collections across the United States and Canada. She is also certified for teaching Adult Education in the State of California. Linda has owned and operated a successful Interiors business specializing in faux finishes, furniture arrangement, and color consultation..
