Larry Pennington
Larry was a fine art major attending University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he was introduced and became skilled in pottery. From the 1990s until 2004 he attended various workshops and classes from the Arkansas Arts Center museum school. Professionally, Pennington was an advertising photographer and pottery was his hobby until he opened a gallery and studio in 2005. He owned and operated “Claytime Studio” representing his own work as well as other regional potters who rented studio space. Pennington taught basic and intermediate wheel throwing with emphasis on cone 6 electric kiln firing through tutoring, weekly classes, and 2 hour Friday night classes. His work involves various firing and glazing techniques including raku and pit firing and he is familiar with many techniques as a hand builder and wheel thrower. Pennington retired from photography and closed his pottery studio and gallery in 2018 and moved from North Little Rock to Lake Hamilton in Hot Springs. There he built a pottery studio in his new home where he tutors. Pennington also teaches wheel throwing at Emergent Arts in Hot Springs.
