Maureen Rousseau's Art and Bio
MAUREEN ROUSSEAU
Home is in Hot Springs Village with my wonderful woodworking (frame builder) husband, Dave. I have called many states home over the years and the people, their cultures and the environments have instilled in me an appreciation for everyone and everything along my paths.
I studied graphic design and art education at Henderson State University, while raising my family, and pursued a career in graphic design. Life directed me to several jobs I never saw myself doing... self- employment in a shipping business with my husband, USCG Captain driving passenger vessels in the Baltimore Inner Harbor, and telecommunications officer for Ft. Myers Police Dept.
Following retirement, and moving to HSV, I began painting and haven't stopped. Joining several local art groups and attending numerous workshops has led me through continuing artistic growth and sharing with others, as I have learned.
My art should stir your curiosity and hopefully, make you smile. Living in the present, I love to get into my zone and let the subject 'become'. I begin with an idea, a dream, a plan... but am always excited to see how the medium interprets the plan as it evolves. I cannot be tied to one medium and enjoy diving into many including watercolor, oil, alcohol ink, oil pastel, Chinese brush watercolor, acrylic, and clay.
I'm passionate about endangered animals and environments worldwide and paint to raise awareness for them. Our treasured pets are also often my subjects. I am also inspired by scripture when I least expect it.
It’s wonderful to be part of such a wonderful art community in central Arkansas. I've been gifted so much encouragement from fellow artists locally, nationally and internationally. I have settled in for the long run and look forward to what is to come, how I will grow, and the joy I can bring to the hearts that see it.
