Daryl Wedwick's Art & Bio
Daryl Wedwick is a retired Professor of Theatre. He has taught at universities in Wisconsin, Montana, Texas and Louisiana. He has designed scenery and lighting for some 200 stage productions, creating environments in which the actors told their tales.
Watercolor was the chosen medium for the renderings for those environments. Four decades of designing provided a certain degree of expertise in that medium. That period of time in a university environment provided a great many opportunities to refine the practice of the fine art of doodling, as well.
Since Daryl and his wife, Cathy, celebrated their respective retirements from the academic world and moved to Hot Springs Village in 2007, he has studied with several local and nationally- known artists. He is a member of Brush Strokes, the Artists’ Workshop Gallery and Mid-Southern Watercolorists.
He has taken advantage of the local artistic climate to develop his own artistic style; a light- hearted blending of the art of doodling with the medium of watercolor, much to the delight of his artistic muse. When his muse visits his shop/studio, she may toss colors through the air or play with words. She may flirt, strike a pose or dance. She may bring a whole bag full of little sparkles of inspiration from all over the world . . . or beyond. Music is frequent. So is laughter.
Therefore, many of Daryl Wedwick’s paintings may stretch the viewer’s imagination. Most are somewhat whimsical in nature. Only rarely is a statement made about the human condition. Visual puns may happen. Their doodle heritage is usually apparent. They are simply fun things to see.
Enjoy!
